University of Dayton receives $99M Air Force contract

DAYTON, Ohio — A southwest Ohio college's research institute has announced a $99 million contract with the Air Force — the largest contract in the institute's history.

The Dayton Daily News reports the University of Dayton Research Institute will help the Air Force integrate new or improved technologies to reduce maintenance costs and increase its aircraft fleet's availability.

Officials say at least 25 to 30 researchers will work under the five-year contract, with half being new positions the institute has already started filling.

The contract includes an initial work order for $5.4 million for the development of technologies to monitor aircraft components and alert personnel when maintenance is needed.

The University of Dayton also will develop new courses to provide Air Force personnel and students with the skills to use the technologies.
