The president has nominated a new commander for U.S. Air Forces Central Command will receive a new commander, the Defense Department announced Wednesday today.
Maj. Gen. Charles Q. Brown Jr., if confirmed, will take command at al Udeid Air Base, Qatar, and oversee the drawdown in Afghanistan and an active campaign against Islamic State fighters in Iraq and Syria.
Currently the director of operations, strategic deterrence and nuclear integration for U.S. Air Forces in Europe, Brown is also slated to will receive a third star and take his new command over Air Forces Central Command at al Udeid Air Base, Qatar. If confirmed, Brown He would succeed take over for Lt. Gen. John Hesterman III. The Defense Department hasn't announced a new assignment for Hesterman.
Brown will take over a command busy with the draw down in Afghanistan, along with an active campaign against Islamic State fighters in Iraq and Syria.
In addition to Brown, President Obama has also nominated:
- Lt. Gen. Andrew Busch, currently, vice commander of Air Force Materiel Command, to be director of the Defense Logistics Agency at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
- Maj. Gen. Mark Nowland, chief of staff of U.S. Southern Command, to be promoted to for the rank of lieutenant general and to be commander, for assignment of Twelfth Air Force (Air Forces Southern), Air Combat Command, Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona. Nowland is currently the chief of staff of U.S. Southern Command.
