Since fiscal 2006, the Air Force has lost 53,000 airmen, according to the service's proposed fiscal 2016 budget:
- 44,000 active-duty airmen.
- 7,000 airmen in the Air Force Reserve.
- 2,000 Air National Guardsmen.
- Taking the brunt of enlisted cuts last fiscal year, according to data provided by the Air Force:
- Security forces shed 1,564 airmen, or 14.3 percent of all enlisted cuts.
- Material management lost 477 airmen, or 4.4 percent of enlisted cuts.
- The fuels career field lost 446 airmen, or 4.1 percent of the enlisted drawdown.
On the officer side:
- Mobility pilots took the deepest cuts, losing 386 airmen, or 14.2 percent of officer cuts.
- The development engineers career field lost 151 airmen, or 5.6 percent of officer cuts.
- Cyberspace operations lost 136 airmen, or 5 percent of officer cuts.
