FB: New AETC commander. Lt. Gen. Darryl Roberson moves from Europe to Lackland, will oversee Air Force training.
Air Education and Training Command may soon have a new leader.
Lt. Gen. Darryl Roberson, currently commander of Third Air Force, U.S. Air Forces in Europe, would take over the command in charge of educating and training airmen, pending confirmation of his nomination by the Senate.
Roberson would take over for Gen. Robin Rand, who left to become the first four-star general to lead Air Force Global Strike Command.
The commander of Air Education and Training Command is now a three-star billet.
When the Air Force made the Global Strike Command's top position a four-star, they moved the AETC spot down.
The service would need congressional approval to expand its general officer ranks, and so it reassigned the two major commands.
Roberson, before his current post at Ramstein Air Base, Germany, served as the vice director of operations for the Joint Staff and as the director of Air Force strategic planning, and he commanded the 455th Air Expeditionary Wing at Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan.
Maj. Gen. Timothy Ray has been nominated to receive a third star and take over for Roberson as commander of Third Air Force.
Ray is currently the director of global power programs in the office of the assistant secretary of the Air Force for acquisition.
