UPDATE: Weber County Attorney Christopher Allred said in a May 3, 2017, email that the charges against Bostick were dismissed without prejudice due to the lack of testimony of a key witness. Because the charges were dismissed without prejudice, Allred said, they could potentially be re-filed in the future. But, he said, it does not currently appear prosecutors are likely to receive any evidence that would cause them to re-file the case.

A security forces staff sergeant stationed at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana is accused of raping a 13-year-old girl in Utah on multiple occasions.

Staff Sgt. Calvin Bostick, 25, faces a preliminary hearing July 8 in Weber County, Utah. He was charged April 17 with one count of rape of a child and one count of rape, and was arrested in Montana shortly thereafter, Weber County Attorney Christopher Allred said Tuesday.

Allred said Bostick allegedly began having sex with the victim in 2010, when she was 13, and continued to do so into 2011, after she turned 14. Utah law defines a child as someone who is under age 14, which is why Bostick faces the separate charge of rape.

Allred said Bostick met the victim, who lived in Utah, after communicating with her mother through social media. He said Bostick was stationed in Montana at the time of the alleged abuse, and traveled from there to Utah.

The Air Force's Office of Special Investigations first learned of the alleged abuse from a complaint filed by a third party, Allred said. The victim's father also found out his daughter was allegedly being abused, and alerted Utah's Department of Child and Family Services, Allred said. DCFS then contacted the police in Roy City, which is in Weber County, who conducted the investigation, Allred said.

Allred said the victim told the police about her alleged abuse when they asked her.

Bostick is out on bail, Allred said.

Bostick's attorney, Randall Richards, said his client plans to plead not guilty to the charges. Richards said that Bostick remains in Montana.
