Security is still investigating reports from Friday of shots fired at Fort Eustis, Va., but said there is no shooting suspect in the incident.
The reports of shots fired on base prompted a lockdown for a few hours Feb. 19, which was lifted after security determined there was no active shooter or other threat.
"The safety and security of our service members and their families is always a top priority for base leadership," a statement from the base said. "As such, every precaution was exercised in response to the report of shots fired until a thorough search of the area revealed no evidence of any foul play, no shooting suspect, and no victims."
Investigators are still trying to determine what prompted the reports of shots fired and what caused the noise that was heard, the base said.
The incident took place outside Building 650, the Fort Eustis In-Processing Center. Fort Eustis is part of Joint Base Langley-Eustis near Newport News in southern Virginia.
