The Air Force has chosen 497 officers for promotion to lieutenant colonel, the Air Force Personnel Center said Friday.
The bulk of the newly-selected colonels — 446 of them — are in the Line of the Air Force category. Another 23 are judge advocate generals, and the last 28 are in the Nurse Corps.
There were 3,865 O-5s up for promotion in the 2015C selection boards, resulting in a 12.86 percent selection rate. Of those selectees, 443 were in the promotion zone, and another 47 were below-the-zone. There were seven above-the-zone selections out of 827 eligible officers, resulting in a selection rate of 0.8 percent.
The selection rate for all in-the-zone officers was 52.9 percent, and the below-the-zone selection rate was 2.1 percent.
Pilots had the largest selection rate among operations officers in the Line of the Air Force category, with 136 being chosen out of 989 eligible, for a 13.7 percent selection rate. Navigators were second with a 11.5 percent selection rate, with 38 out of 330 chosen. And there were 6 air battle managers chosen out of 87 eligible, resulting in a 6.9 percent selection rate.
There were 51 non-rated operations officers chosen out of 539 eligible, resulting in a 9.5 percent selection rate. And among the mission support officers, there were 215 chosen out of 1,537, or a 14 percent selection rate.
