Secretary of Defense Ash Carter announced July 1 that the president has nominated Air Force Maj. Gen. Steven M. Shepro for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general and for assignment as deputy chairman, North Atlantic Treaty Organization Military Committee, Brussels, Belgium. Shepro now serves as vice director, Strategic Plans and Policy, J-5, on the Joint Staff at the Pentagon.

The Air Force chief of staff announced the following assignments July 1:

Maj. Gen. John. P. Horner, from deputy director, Defense Threat Reduction Agency, Fort Belvoir, Virginia, to director, DOD Special Access Program Central Office, and director, Special Programs, in the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and at the Pentagon.

Maj. Gen. Thomas J. Sharpy, from director, Strategic Plans, Requirements and Programs, Headquarters Air Mobility Command, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois, to vice commander, Headquarters Air Mobility Command, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. Sharpy is replacing Maj. Gen. Rowayne A. Schatz Jr., who is retiring.

Brig. Gen. Jon T. Thomas, selected to the grade of major general, from commander, 86th Airlift Wing, U.S. Air Forces in Europe, Ramstein Air Base, Germany, to director, Strategic Plans, Requirements and Programs, Headquarters Air Mobility Command, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois.

Col. Richard G. Moor Jr., selected to the grade of brigadier general, from chief, Program Integration Division, Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Financial Management and Comptroller, to commander, 86th Airlift Wing, U.S. Air Forces in Europe, Ramstein Air Base, Germany.

Enlisted leader

The senior enlisted adviser to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs announced a command senior enlisted leader assignment July 6.

Command Chief Master Sgt. Timothy B. Horn, now the command chief master sergeant of Air University, Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama, is to replace Marine Sgt. Maj. Howard K. Long as command senior enlisted leader for the Defense Threat Reduction Agency at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
