The Defense Department has identified an airman who died Thursday while supporting Operation Inherent Resolve.
Lt. Col. Flando E. Jackson, of Lansing, Michigan, died in Southwest Asia from a non-combat-related injury, according to a DoD news release. His death is currently under investigation.
Jackson, 45, was assigned to the 194th Wing, Camp Murray, Washington National Guard.
Officials did not specify the exact location where Flando was stationed in the Central Command area of operations.
Operation Inherent Resolve is a U.S.-led effort to defeat the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria through airstrikes.
According to the Pentagon, as of July 15, 2016, the anti-ISIS campaign has cost $8.4 billion. The campaign began Aug. 8, 2014.
