Maj. Gen. Anthony Cotton has been nominated to become the next commander and president of Air University and be promoted to lieutenant general, the Pentagon said this week.
Maj. Gen. Dorothy Hogg and Maj. Gen. David Thompson have also been nominated to receive their third stars and new assignments.
Cotton is now the commander of the 20th Air Force at Global Strike Command and commander of U.S. Strategic Command’s Task Force 214 at F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Wyoming. Before that, he served as deputy director of the National Reconnaissance Office, commander of the 45th Space Wing, and director of the Eastern Range at Patrick Air Force Base in Florida, and commander of the 341st Missile Wing at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana.
Hogg, who is now deputy surgeon general and chief of the Air Force Nurse Corps, is nominated to be the next surgeon general of the Air Force. She was previously director of the surgeon general’s Medical Operations and Research Office and assistant surgeon general for medical force deployment.
Thompson, who is deputy commander of Air Force Space Command at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado, is nominated to be the Air Force’s deputy chief of staff for space superiority at the Pentagon. Thompson, an Air Force Academy graduate, previously served as STRATCOM’s director of plans and policy at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska, and STRATCOM’s deputy director of global operations at Offutt.
