Brig. Gen. Carl Buhler, the director of engineering, logistics and force protection for Air Combat Command, was removed from his leadership position Monday.

Gen. Mike Holmes, the head of ACC, removed Buhler after an inspector general investigation found he “failed to establish and maintain a healthy command climate,” ACC spokeswoman Maj. Malinda Singleton said in an email Thursday.

The investigation also found Buhler misused his subordinates’ official time, abused his authority to reassign staff duties, and violated official travel rules and regulations, Singleton said.

Buhler is working as a special assistant to Holmes, Singleton said. His deputy, Mark Novak, is filling in until a replacement for Buhler is appointed.

Buhler was selected for promotion to major general in February 2016. He has served as ACC’s director of engineering, logistics and force protection since September 2015, and prior to that was commander of the Ogden Air Logistics Complex at Hill Air Force Base in Utah.
