The selection rate for senior master sergeant promotions in 2018 is essentially unchanged from the previous year.

In 2017, 11.8 percent of airmen eligible for promotion to E-8 were selected. The Air Force Personnel Center announced Wednesday that the 2018 selection rate will slightly increase to 11.87 percent.

AFPC said that the promotion results and the list of selectees will be officially released March 1.

The Air Force has chosen 1,549 master sergeants for promotion, out of 13,054 eligible airmen, AFPC said. That’s more than the 1,391 chosen last year, out of a pool of 11,788.

But the selection rate is less than the recent high of 12.32 percent in 2016, which itself marked a significant increase over the drawdown-depressed promotion rates of 2014 and 2015.
